Update April 11, 2017: GET TV is returning to airwaves.
Original Post: Yes, TBD. As in To Be Determined. I'm not kidding, that's the name of Sinclair Broadcast Group's new digital multicast channel which debuted Tuesday on WSTR-DT4 (over-the-air Channel 64.4) targeted to Millennials.
The new network airs a variety of long and short content made for the internet.
Varietysays the channel "promises to serve up a mix of web series, short films and short-form content involving fashion, comedy, lifestyle, eSports and music currated by the Dublin (Ireland)-based video aggregation service QYOU."
The WSTR-DT4 schedule for Wednesday lists "QYOU PRIME" (7 p.m.), "Emma Approved" (8 p.m.), "Big Red Lazer" (8:30 p.m.), "10 UP" (9 p.m.), "Best of the Week" (9:30 p.m.), "QYOU PRIME" (10 p.m.) and "While You Were" (11 p.m.). Overnight the channel will air "QYOU EDGE" (midnight-3 a.m.) and two movies (3-7 p.m.) until "QYOUUP" (7 a.m.).
TBD is an effort to draw younger viewers who are "drawn to nontraditional content," Variety says. The channel’s partners through QYOU include Jukin Media, Legendary Digital Networks (home of Nerdist & Geek and Sundry), Whistle Sports, Kinonation, Zoomin’ and Canvas Media Studios, Variety says.
It replaces GET TV, which aired the old "Merv Griffin Show," "Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour," "The Equalizer," "In The Heat of the Night," "Airwolf," "Jeff Foxworthy Show," "Loredo," "Billy Jack" and "Murphy's Romance." Last December, GET TV aired old Christmas TV specials starring Perry Como, Rosemary Clooney, Johnny Cash, Andy Williams, Bing Crosby, Mac Davis, Mel Torme, Judy Garland and Danny Kaye.
TBD will be a sister to Sinclair's sci-fi Comet digital multicast channel launched in 2015 with MGM TV. Soon Sinclair and MGM will have another channel called Charge, a digital multicast channel with MGM filled with old action-adventure and mystery movies and TV series. (Charge is not available in Cincinnati yet.)
Variety says Sinclair’s vast TV station holdings — 173 stations serving 81 markets, or just under 40 percent of U.S. TV households — provide the core distribution for the multicast channels, but they also are sold syndication-style to station owners in non-Sinclair markets.
Eventually TBD, Comet and Charge will be available on mobile, tablets and smart TVs.
