The number of fatal and non-fatal shootings in Cincinnati and Hamilton County for the first six months of this year is higher than the same period last year. That's according to numbers provided by CIRV, the Cincinnati Initiative to Reduce Violence. 

The number of shooting victims in Cincinnati is increasing. New data shows year-to-date (through May 24) there have been 162 victims this year compared to 133 in 2014.

Cincinnati Police are pointing to CIRV, the Cincinnati Initiative to Reduce Violence, as making a dent in Over the Rhine crime.

Shootings are down 74-percent and robberies 12-percent. Assistant Chief Jim Whalen says police are in the process of arresting 83 people, mostly drug dealers, who operate to the west of the trendy bar and restaurant area. They started identifying the suspects about four months ago.

Cincinnati Police didn't have too far to go to begin round one of a crackdown targeting gang members allegedly dealing drugs and guns in East Price Hill.

The SWAT team executed a search warrant at 3216 Warsaw, diagonal from District Three Police Headquarters, where two shootings happened last weekend. That was just the beginning.

By 2:00 Tuesday police say they had arrested 14 of the 29 people wanted.  One involved a car chase into Kentucky.
