Jazz with OT

Sundays at 10 PM
  • Hosted by Oscar Treadwell

In the Summer of 2005 Cincinnati Public Radio was delighted to announce the return of Oscar Treadwell to Cincinnati’s airwaves. The beloved former WGUC and WVXU jazz host reprised Jazz with OT on 91.7 WVXU every Sunday evening. As a tribute to OT, these programs continue, taking jazz fans on a wonderful musical journey. In these programs OT spins the tunes of the jazz masters, tells their stories, and provides counterpoint with his beautiful poetry narrations.

The Boilermaker Jazz Band will present a tribute concert to Benny Goodman in Music Hall's Ballroom on Sunday, July 6th, at 2pm.  Benny Goodman, the bandleader known for such memorable songs as "Stompin' at the Savoy" and "Sing Sing Sing," was dubbed "the king of swing" during the Big Band era.

The premier jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force, The Airmen of Note, will perform in two free concerts this weekend. Both concerts are presented by Cincinnati Opera as part of "Cincinnati Remembers WWI," the opera company's citywide series of events commemorating the centenary of the First World War.

I got this message from jazz pianist and Cincinnati native Fred Hersch asking jazz fans to show some love:

On Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 7:30pm, the 2013-14 Carnegie in Concert season closes with the return of Cincinnati music and television legend Nancy James to the intimate stage of the Otto M. Budig Theatre.

Nancy James: The Voices in My Head features perennial Carnegie favorite and local treasure Nancy James reminiscing in song and story on her four decade career. Nancy James will take patrons down memory lane as she recalls her experiences beginning with CCM to the Bob Braun Show and beyond, along with a little help from her friends.

As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, the Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra partners with many of the best arts organizations in the region, including two-year partnerships with both the Constella Festival of Music and Fine Arts and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

Faux Frenchmen concerts

George Cunningham from the Faux Frenchmen sent me this email with their upcoming concert schedule:

According to today's New York Times website, Belgian jazz musician Toots Thielemans has decided to retire at the age of 91.  Famous for his harmonica, he decided to leave the stage because he "considers his energy too limited for a full concert."  But what a legacy he's retiring with....

Chris Comer Trio concerts

Feb 3, 2014

Email from Chris Comer 2/2/14:

If you are missing the hip jazz nights at Chez Nora we used to play, there's this cozy hip spot in Northside on Hamilton Ave. called The LISTING LOON. It's in a space that used to be a tango dance studio next to the bike shop SPUN BICYCLES. The address is 4124 Hamilton Ave. They have a nice piano at The Listing Loon as well as all kinds of unique beers and a full bar. I'm playing piano there this Wednesday at 8pm with Bryan Berwanger on bass & Brendan Blumer on drums.
