Jazz with OT

Sundays at 10 PM
  • Hosted by Oscar Treadwell

In the Summer of 2005 Cincinnati Public Radio was delighted to announce the return of Oscar Treadwell to Cincinnati’s airwaves. The beloved former WGUC and WVXU jazz host reprised Jazz with OT on 91.7 WVXU every Sunday evening. As a tribute to OT, these programs continue, taking jazz fans on a wonderful musical journey. In these programs OT spins the tunes of the jazz masters, tells their stories, and provides counterpoint with his beautiful poetry narrations.

Cincinnati's got a great jazz scene these days!  Here's a sample of some of the upcoming performances in the area:

4/29 – 8:30pm – The Blue Wisp Big Band at Urban Artifacts in Northside.  New Wednesday night location!

4/30 – International  Jazz Day - Jazz events all over the world.

5/2 – 9pm - Don Braden, internationally acclaimed jazz saxophonist and Cincinnati native at The Greenwich with Phil DeGreg (piano), Art Gore (drums), and Aaron Jacobs (bass).

Saturday, March 28 "Dreaming in Colour" at The Greenwich.

Dreaming In Colour is a St. Louis-based contemporary, instrumental jazz group
that presents an atmosphere of resonant songwriting full of energy and melodiousness. The nucleus of Dreaming In Colour, bassist Kevin Ellis and drummer Chris Noonan, enlists some of the top sax and keyboard luminaries for recording and performance.

For those who appreciate music, recognizing the great artists who work so hard to create it is quite important. Musicians devote their lives to composing passion into impacting melodies that serve to move the soul. To recognize the artist for their work is to let them know we appreciate their gift, and thank them for sharing it. There are many award organizations that exist for this reason, such as the Grammys and Hard Rock, but those only begin to touch on the number of musicians who deserve our gratitude.

Grammy Award-winning jazz musician, vocalist, songwriter and producer, Cassandra Wilson, will be performing on Friday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Hall Auditorium, 101 S. Campus Ave, on Miami University’s Oxford campus. Wilson’s 2015 tour is an otherworldly musical homage to legendary jazz vocalist Billie Holiday on the 100th anniversary of the singer's birth. "A dream of mine is happening," said Wilson, "I've been in love with Billie Holiday's voice since the moment I heard it, and she has inspired me throughout my career."

In honor of Jack Bruce, bass player for the legendary band Cream, who passed away last weekend, we will air a special episode of Jazz with OT, recorded in 1974, that features some of Cream's most memorable tunes.
