Greater Cincinnati has a vibrant arts scene, and Around Cincinnati keeps you up to date. Host Lee Hay is joined by prominent local contributors who have their fingers on the pulse of the community and introduce you to the cultural and arts organizations and events that make Cincinnati special.

The Bearcat Piano Festival is coming to the UC campus starting February 6 and will feature two weeks of performances, master classes and other activities, concluding with the popular Pianopalooza concert on February 16. Two of the area’s finest pianists and professors at the College Conservatory of Music, Awadagin Pratt and Michael Chertock, are in the studio with Brian O’Donnell to talk about this mid-winter piano celebration.

Spring Break Horse Camp for kids coming up soon

It’s not too early to start looking ahead at your child’s spring break and one fun opportunity that week is the Spring Break Horse Camp taking place at the Winton Wood Riding Center. Robyn Carey Allgeyer talks with the center’s assistant manager, Rachel Neuman, about what will take place during those days, including horse safety, grooming, breeds and riding.

In advance of President’s Day, Lee Hay talks by phone with artist and author Maira Kalman about her new young people’s book, Thomas Jefferson: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Everything. 

Award-winning "Tribes" currently onstage in OTR

Tribes, the Drama Desk Award winning play about a deaf son in an outspoken and expressive family, is currently on stage at Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati. Two of Cincinnati’s favorite actors, Dale Dymkoski and Kelly Mengelkoch, star in this production and join Rick Pender in the studio to talk about this provocative family drama.

Two brothers create book of poetry and illustrations

The brothers John and Brian Volck have recently collaborated on a book featuring Brian’s poetry and John’s illustrations called Flesh Becomes Word, and they discuss how Brian’s work as a pediatrician influences his writing and their collaborative process with Barbara Gray.
