Wynonie Harris & King Records

This summer, we're sharing specials about King Records that I've produced over the past 10 years or so leading up to the 75th anniversary celebration of King Records on August 25th.  Details of the event are still being worked out, so as soon as they become available, I'll post on this website.

This week, Saturday evening, July 14th at 11pm, you'll hear a one-hour special about jump blues performer Wynonie Harris who recorded at King Records in the 1940's & 1950's.  During this special, you'll hear Brian Powers, local music historian, talk with Wesley F. Deveroux, Wynonie Harris's son, on July 10, 2016.  Mr. Deveroux mentions the influence his father's performing style had on Elvis Presley, and other highlights of his career over the years.

Tony Collins, who wrote an out-of-print biography about Wynonie Harris, Rock Mr. Blues: The Life & Music of Wynonie Harris, spoke with Brian Powers on July 24, 2016.  And we were delighted to have help with this special from none other than Dan Akroyd & Elwood!
