According to the Prison Policy Initiative, incarcerated people have a median salary under $20,000 prior to incarceration.

That’s 41 percent less than non-incarcerated people in the same age demographic. Many of these individuals can’t afford an attorney so they are provided with court-appointed public defenders.

Here to talk about public defenders and the work they do are Directing Attorney of the Covington Trial Office, Daniel Schubert; Assistant Public Advocate at the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy's Covington Trial Office, Ashley Graham; and Directing Attorney for the Newport Trial Office, Eva Hager.
