Three weeks after Gillian Anderson's "UFO" debuts Sept. 4 on digital and DVD, Robert Redford's "The Old Man And The Gun" premieres in theaters.
Here's an update on release information for films shot in Greater Cincinnati:
THE OLD MAN AND THE GUN: Redford's portrayal of Forrest Tucker, a bank robber who escaped from San Quentin at the age 70, arrives in theaters Friday, Sept. 28, says Fox Searchlight Pictures.
Director David Lowery started filming here in April last year with three Oscar-winners: Redford ("Ordinary People"), Casey Affleck ("Manchester By The Sea") and Sissy Spacek ("Coal Miner's Daughter").
"The Old Man And The Gun" cast includes Danny Glover ("Lethal Weapon," "The Color Purple"), Elisabeth Moss ("Mad Men"), Tiki Sumpter ("Southside with You," "The Game," "Ride Along") and singer Tom Waits.
Fox Searchlight says the movie "is based on the true story of Forrest Tucker (Redford), from his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public. Wrapped up in the pursuit are detective John Hunt (Affleck), who becomes captivated with Forrest's commitment to his craft, and a woman (Spacek), who loves him in spite of his chosen profession."
Scenes were filmed in Covington, Newport, Cincinnati, Hamilton, Bethel and Dayton.
REPRISAL: The Bruce Willis-Frank Grillo action film made last summer in Cincinnati premieres Friday, Aug. 31.
Grillo ("Captain America," "Donnybrook") plays a bank manager suffering from post traumatic stress disorder after failing to stop a violent heist. He teams up with a neighbor (Willis) to track the robber (Johnathon Schaech from "Legends of Tomorrow" and Willis' Cincinnati "Marauders"), who kidnaps the bank manager's wife (2012 Miss USA/Miss Universe Olivia Culpo) and their diabetic daughter.
The Lionsgate Premiere trailer has lots of gun shots – and pretty aerial shots of downtown, the Ohio River and Over-the-Rhine.
DONNYBROOK: The movie about an epic bare-knuckle fight, shot here last October, is in post-production. The Internet Movie Database just lists "2018" for the release of film written and directed by Tim Sutton.
In addition to Grillo, the film stars Jamie Bell ("Fantastic Four," "Billy Elliot," AMC's "Turn"); James Badge Dale ("Only The Brave," "Iron Man 3," "The Departed"); Margaret Qualley ("Death Note," The Nice Guys," "The Leftovers") and Cincinnati native Kevin Crowley ("Carol," "Army Wives," "Goat," "Push, Nevada").
EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL AND VILE: It's way too early for a release date to be set for Zach Efron's Ted Bundy movie, which just finished filming here in late February.
Bundy was a 1970s serial killer, kidnapper, rapist, thief and prison escapee who preyed on young women in Washington, Utah, Colorado and Florida. He confessed to 30 murders before his death in the electric chair in 1989.
Efron's co-stars include Jim Parsons ("The Big Bang Theory"), John Malkovich ("Being John Malkovich," "In The Line Of Fire"), Lily Collins ("To The Bone," "Rules Don't Apply") Dylan Baker ("Homeland," "Selma," "Blindspot") and Haley Joel Osment ("Silicon Valley," "Teachers," "The Sixth Sense").
THE PUBLIC: Emilio Estevez's "The Public," filmed here in February 2017 about homeless people occupying the main Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival Jan. 31.
The cast included Estevez, Christian Slater ("Mr. Robot," "Bobby"), Alec Baldwin ("Saturday Night Live," "30 Rock"), Jenna Malone ("The Hunger Games"), Gabrielle Union ("Being Mary Jane," "Breakin' All The Rules"), Taylor Schilling ("Orange Is The New Black"), Jeffrey Wright, hip hop artist Che "Rhymefest" Smith ("Selma") and Michael Kenneth Williams ("The Wire").
