One day after Butch Jones resigned to leave for Tennessee, the University of Cincinnati has a new coach. Texas Tech's Tommy Tuberville was being introduced at a Saturday evening event at Fifth Third Arena as the 41st football head coach at UC.
Tuberville coached the Red Raiders for 3 years, leading the team to a 20-17 record and two bowl appearances. In 17 years as a head coach, he holds a 130-77 record.
"Coach Tuberville's record speaks for itself over the past 17 seasons," said UC Athletic Director Whit Babcock in an online statement. "It also speaks volumes to the visibility and leadership of our university that we were able to attract such an accomplished coach to lead our program into the future."
Tuberville coached Auburn from 1999-2008. He was head coach of Ole Miss from 1995-1998. Prior to Ole Miss, he was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Texas A&M in 1994.
He was a member of the University of Miami staff from 1986-1993, serving on the staffs of Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson as a defensive coach on teams that won three national championships, posted an 87-9 record and played in nine consecutive New Year's Day bowls.
