Traveling Over Thanksgiving? You Won't Be Alone

If you're hitting the roads to visit family and friends for Thanksgiving, you won't be alone. Auto club AAA says nearly 46.9 million Americans plan to travel by car or plane during the long holiday weekend. And, the auto club says, nearly 2 million Ohioans will be among them.Spokeswoman Cheryl Parker that's a one percent increase over last year.

"We think it's due in large part to something we can all be thankful for," says Parker. "That's the lower gas prices."

Parker says these are the lowest Thanksgiving gas prices since 2008.

Wednesday and Sunday are likely to be the busiest travel days.

Parker says AAA is keeping an eye on the weather as well. "Even though we don't see heavy snowfall in the forecast, we're hearing mention of snow in the forecast; and definitely the colder lows in the 20s and 30s and that can impact your vehicle."

She says the auto club expects to rescue thousands of stranded motorist during the Thanksgiving holiday.

AAA is predicting a slight decline in flying travelers. However, the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport isn't.

In a statement, Chief Executive Officer Candace McGraw says, “With increased flight options and more capacity, we expect passenger volumes to increase approximately 10 percent compared to 2014.”
