The record numbers of deaths due to drug overdoses in many parts of the country, including Ohio, is the most tragic result of the heroin and opiate epidemic. But the social costs of drug abuse are also on a dramatic rise. Last year thousands of individuals were arrested just in Hamilton County alone on drug-related charges. We continue our discussion of the heroin epidemic in our region with Ann Barnum, Interact for Health senior program officer for Healthy Choices About Substance Use; Libby Harrison, project manager with the Cincinnati Exchange Project; and, Chief Tom Synan with the Village of Newtown Police Department. Chief Synan also leads the heroin task force with Hamilton County'?s association of police chiefs.
