Services Thursday For Sportscaster Eric Bose

Update 3 p.m.: More about Eric Bose's radio career from John Perin:

Eric Bose did UC football & basketball for the 1958-59 and 1959-60 seasons on WSAI Radio. He also did UC football & basketball for the 1970-71 season on WKRC Radio.

During the 1960s, Eric did some on-the-air sports on WCKY including selected Xavier basketball games during the 1967-68 season and an NFL pre-season game (Jets -vs- Eagles) from Nippert Stadium in 1967.

The work with the Royals was during the 1969-70 season on WLW Radio. He also sat in for Claude Sullivan on the Reds Radio Network a couple of times late in the 1966 Reds season. (WCKY was the originating station for the Reds network at that time.) I know he lived in the Mt. Washington area before moving to Villa Hills and I believe he attended Hughes High School.

By the way, I'm pretty sure I'm correct in noting that until his passing, Eric was the oldest, living former Cincinnati sportscaster.

Original Post 9:50 a.m.: Services are Thursday for Eric Bose, former voice of the University of Cincinnati Bearcats, who died Aug. 16. He was 89.

Bose was a Cincinnati sportscaster for WCPO-AM, WSAI-AM and WCKY-AM from the early 1950s into the 1980s.

He was involved with sports programming for the Cincinnati Reds, NBA Cincinnati Royals, UC and other teams. Bose also sold advertising for WCKY-AM. I wish I could tell you more about his career, but not much shows up in a Google search and I don't have access to the Enquirer library stories and photos from his radio programs and sports assignments.

A Cincinnati native, Bose lived in Park Hills. After he retired, he was always gracious with his time when I'd call with questions about Cincinnati sports broadcasting history.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday August 24 at Parkside Christian Church, 6986 Salem Road, Anderson Township, followed by services at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Clermont County.

Here's a link to his obituaryprinted in Sunday's Enquirer. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Heartland Hospice or Hughes High School.

John Kiesewetter, who has covered television and media for more than 35 years, has been working for Cincinnati Public Radio and WVXU-FM since 2015.
