Quite simply, if you are looking for great Asian cuisine in a fun and funky atmosphere, you must try KungFood Amerasia on Madison Road in Covington, KY.
Where else can you find such dishes as 'Fly Rice,' 'Nunchuck Chicken' and 'Pork “Get in Mah Belly”?'
Visually-speaking, as one side of the restaurant reflects the more traditional and familiar style of decor - the other is plastered with movie posters from classic movies starring Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan while a large-screen television streams kung-fu movies overhead.
Johnnyi Chu, General Manager of the restaurant, informed me that, although the style is out-of-the-ordinary, the recipes come from a very rich tradition of Chinese cooking. Johnnyi's father, Master Chef Chu, has been cooking since the age of 9 and was trained by the Imperial Chef to the last emperor of China.
For the more adventurous diner, there are many "off-the-menu" items available that adhere to this tradition. My selection, after Johnnyi's guidance, was the Beef Ho Fun. The entire dish was in perfect balance with sweet ginger and spicy chili sauce and the noodles themselves are crunchy yet soft at the same time.
KungFood also has an amazing selection of craft beers available for food-parings.
KungFood Amerasia is open Monday-Thursday 11am-9pm. On Fridays they stay open until 10; and their Saturday hours are 4pm to 10pm. You can find more information on their Facebook page.
