Reds Spring Opener On TV, Radio March 1

Cincinnati Reds

Play ball! Fans get their first look at the new, young Reds when Fox Sports Ohio and WLW-AM broadcast the Reds spring opener 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, from Goodyear, Ariz.

FSO will televise the second game, also against the Cleveland Indians from Goodyear, at 3 p.m. Wednesday.  FSO will carry two more spring games: Reds-Royals 1 p.m. Tuesday March 15, and Reds-Rockies 4 p.m. Friday March 25, according to the Reds broadcast schedule.

Marty Brennaman and Jeff Brantley will do the opener on WLW-AM, and the Wednesday game on Fox Sports WSAI-AM (1360).

Brennaman, 73, starting his 43rd year on Reds Radio and the last year of his contract, said in January that he was uncertain about whether he’ll return in 2017.

As in the past years, WLW-AM will carry the majority of spring games, with WSAI-AM broadcasting about 10 weekday afternoon games in March. Four games again will be internet-only on Reds.com on busy basketball tournament Thursdays and Fridays, March 10-11 and March 17-18.

The spring schedule includes two radio broadcasts by Marty and his son Thom:  At 4:10 p.m. Monday, March 14 (Reds-Angels) on WLW-AM, and 10 p.m. Monday, March 28 (Reds-Brewers) on WSAI-AM.

Reds fans also should expect to hear Marty doing games with Jim Kelch or former Reds infielder Doug Flynn; Thom doing games with Kelch or Brantley; or Kelch calling games with Brantley or Flynn.

Opening Day at Great American Ball Park is 4 p.m. Monday, April 4, against the Philadelphia Phillies.
