The Reds Hall of Fame and Museum is about to get its first major makeover since opening in 2004.
Museum Director Rick Walls says the the 16,000 square-foot facility will close November 1 and reopen in time for next year's Reds season, the 150th anniversary of professional baseball.
"There are some things that are moving around within the museum," Walls says of what's changing. "We've got some new exhibits, some brand new themes and topics, new ways to highlight special items, great storage areas for our large artifact collection."
Walls adds he believes the Reds has the largest artifact collection of all the MLB teams.
Items, however, won't just sit in storage during the renovation period.
"We're hoping to take some of the artifacts out on the road," Walls says. "We've certainly got several places that we could display these over the winter time. We've got chapter events -- Reds Hall of Fame chapters have asked that we bring exhibits out to them for a while."
Walls says there will still be off-season tours of Great American Ball Park while the museum is closed.
