Racial Disparities In Healthcare

freestockphotos.biz
A UC survey found that 21 percent of African-American adults in the region think they would have received better medical care if they belonged to a different race or ethnic group.

A survey by the University of Cincinnati found that African-American adults in Greater Cincinnati are more likely than white adults to report they believe their race and their ability to pay or their type of health insurance negatively impacted the treatment they received from medical professionals.

Joining us to discuss racial disparities in healthcare are Chief Operating Officer at The Center for Closing the Health Gap, Renee Mahaffey Harris, and the directors of the UC Transformation of Mission-Based Health Care Through Diversity, Equity and Inclusion project, University of Cincinnati College of Nursing Dean Dr. Greer Glazer; UC College of Medicine Professor of Family and Community Medicine and Medical Director of The Health Collaborative, Dr. Barb Tobias; and UC College of Nursing Research Associate Tammy Mentzel.

Maryanne Zeleznik is responsible for all news and public affairs programming at WVXU. She also hosts Morning Edition Monday through Friday.
