Parking solution moves apartment work ahead

One of the big sticking points over Alumni Lofts has been settled.  The Pendleton Neighborhood Council was concerned about parking at the former School for Creative and Performing Arts.  But council president Tabatha Anderson says much of the green space on the north side of the property will be saved.

“We were able to work with the developer in order to preserve as much of the green space as possible, by coming up with a workable parking plan,” Anderson says.  That solution comes in the form of a two level parking deck.  “Actually, when you’re on the street, it looks like it’s at street level, with a level underground,” she says.

Michael Cox with Core Redevelopment in Indianapolis says the entire project will have about 198 parking spaces and 148 units in the former school.  The apartments will range from 500 square foot studios, to 2,000 square foot apartments with two bedrooms and two bathrooms.  Rents will start at $700 per month, with the larger units going for $1,500 per month.

Cox says Core Redevelopment expect to start working on the apartments in March or April.  They should be open by late Spring 2016.

Alumni Lofts is just one project in the Pendleton neighborhood.  Tune in to Morning Edition on Friday as WVXU looks at how the community is working to transform itself while keeping its identity intact.
