Noisy Overnight Construction Coming To Part of Over-The-Rhine

Intersection of 12th and Elm where a Duke Energy project will begin on Nov. 6.

Residents near Washington Park may lose some sleep in the next few weeks because of a Duke Energy project.

Cincinnati officials say Duke needs to add capacity to keep up with electric demands in the southern portion of Over-the-Rhine.
Some of the work needs to be done below the city's streetcar track at the southwest corner of Washington Park.

Most construction beneath the track will happen between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m., when the streetcar is not operating. The city says in a memo that "noisy" construction work will likely be heard within three blocks of the project site. The actual digging is expected to take two to three weeks.

The streetcar will continue running its usual daytime schedule, although a flagger at the site will stop work when a streetcar passes.

The project could also result in periodic closures of 12th Street between Elm and Race.

The Duke work begins November 6 and is expected to take five to seven weeks to complete.
