MSD Director Recommends No Rate Hike In 2018

The Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) is recommending sewer rates stay the same next year. Director Gerald Checco says the district's recommended 2018 operating budget is eight percent lower than this year.

"Our budget is consistent with our recommendation of no rate increase for this coming year," Checco says. "Our capital budget is also consistent with that."

Checco tells Hamilton County Commissioners the capital budget isn't ready yet.

Checco says increased personnel costs and investment in new technology is offset by savings from non-personnel costs and lower debt service.

There's a public hearing on the MSD operating budget Wednesday morning at 11:30 at the County Administration Building. Commissioners hope to vote on the budget by November 15. That's the date set by Greater Cincinnati Water Works in order to handle the switch from quarterly to monthly billing.
