Provided by Brian Douglas

The "Miles Ahead" soundtrack, released in April along with Don Cheadle's movie about jazz icon Miles Davis, is up for a Grammy Award.

The film, shot here in 2014, joins Cincinnati jazz pianist Fred Hersch among nominees for the 59th annual Grammy Awards presented Sunday, Feb. 12, on CBS from the Los Angeles Staples Center.

The"Miles Ahead" soundtrackincludes 11 tracks from across Davis' 1956-1981 catalog; movie dialog by Cheadle as Davis; and five original compositions written, co-written, produced or performed for the movie by Grammy-winner Robert Glasper.

It ends with "What's Wrong with That?" the jam which closes the movie with Cheadle as Davis playing in the present day with guest performers Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Gary Clark, Jr., Esperanza Spalding and Glasper.

“We culled the library for every style Miles touched…looking for cues to bridge key moments, bring others into focus,” Cheadle wrote in his liner notes.

Also nominated for "Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media" are "Straight Outta Compton," "Suicide Squad (Collector's Edition)," "Amy" and "Vinyl: The Essentials Season 1."

Hersch, born here in 1955, was nominated for "Best Improvised Jazz Solo" for his performance on "We See" from "Sunday Night At The Vanguard" by the Fred Hersch Trio, and for "Best Jazz Instrumental Album" for that album.
