Mardi Gras special on The Blues!

This week, February 6th at 11pm, we're travelling down to New Orleans for a taste of music you might hear during their Mardi Gras celebration!  The show begins with two of my favorites, Lil' Band O' Gold and ReBirth Brass Band, followed by the iconic Professor Longhair and then the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.

Dr. John starts things off in the second set with "Sweet Home New Orleans."  He's followed by the New Orleans Nightcrawlers who are playing the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on Thursday, April 28th this year.  Dr. John, by the way, will be playing Fest on Saturday, April 30th.  Harry Connick, Jr.follows with "Bourbon Street Parade".  Harry's got a new daytime afternoon show on FOX this fall.

The third set begins with Beausoleil, then Marcia Ball and our own Ricky Nye.  And finally, the show ends with the Neville Brothers and Irma Thomas, the Soul Queen of New Orleans.  Aaron Neville will be closing JazzFest on Sunday, May 1st.  Figure he'll probably be in the gospel tent.  Ms. Thomas will be at Fest on Friday,  April 29th.

And, here's a great article about King Cakes written by David Beriss and posted on the FoodAnthropology website.
