Local Students Aiding Refugees In Cincinnati

commons.wikimedia.org

Tens of thousands of refugees, who’ve fled from upheaval, violence and persecution in their countries, have made the Cincinnati area their new home. Though they’re coming here for a better life, the transition has it challenges.

Adam Sella, a 17-year-old Walnut Hills High School senior, has worked with refugees both here and overseas. His experiences motivated him to start a club at his school called STAR, or Students Together Assisting Refugees. STAR is already gaining attention from other schools across the nation, which are forming their own STAR clubs.

Joining us to talk about STAR and its upcoming benefit concert are Adam Sella; STAR advisor and Walnut Hills High School teacher Johanka Hart-Tompkins; and Sheryl Rajbhandari , program director for Heartfelt Tidbits, which provides support and services to refugees in the Cincinnati area.

STAR will be holding a concert  to benefit the STAR Refugee Students Scholarship Fund on October 18, at 7:30 p.m., in the Walnut Hills High School Library. For more information, click here.
