The local chapter of the Spina Bifida Association is breaking with its national organization and going out on its own. The group is changing its name to the Spina Bifida Coalition of Cincinnati.
Executive Director Sonya Dreves says the chapter is separating because the national association focuses on research.
"And we wanted to spend our energy and time and funds on services. Providing services, perhaps in addition to some research, but research not being as large a focus for us," she says.
According to Dreves, the Coalition serves about 350 clients in a 17-county, Tri-State region.
