Headaches, joint pain, backaches, pain caused by an injury...about 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain, and its effects can range from annoying to debilitating. Many find relief in over-the-counter and prescribed medications, but massage therapy, exercise, acupuncture and other treatments are also effective in reducing pain. Joining us this afternoon to look at methods an individual can use to manage chronic pain is Dr. Nancy Elder, professor of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and massage therapist Joyce Cowens with the U.C. Health Integrative Medicine program.
