Jennifer Schack Leaving WLWT-TV

When WLWT-TV posted a meteorologist job opening last week, I was surprised to learn it was for Jennifer Schack, the Northern Kentucky native on maternity leave.

"As you know, Jennifer left a few weeks back to have her third child…. You will see her on air for a few days in May, but will not return in June," explains Branden Frantz, Channel 5 president and general manager, in an email.

Why is the Bishop Brossart High School graduate leaving her "dream come true" job as weekend morning meteorologist in her hometown market after almost 3-1/2 years?  I emailed Schack and this was her reply: "At this time while away from work on maternity leave, I have no comment. Upon my return to work at WLWT in May I'd be happy to discuss further."

So we should know more in a month.

Schack, a Thomas More College graduate, had been chief meteorologist at Lexington's WTVQ-TV (Channel 36) for three years when hired by WLWT-TV in January 2013. She started her career as a morning meteorologist in Lawrence, Kansas, then worked in Dallas for WFAA-TV and the Texas Cable News network.

"Coming home to WLWT has been a dream come true, after being gone from home for nearly 9 years. I met my husband, Jason, while in Kansas and we had our first child, Weston, while living in Lexington. I am thrilled that we’ll be able to raise Weston near family, with the help and support of the community where I grew up," says her Channel 5 bio.

Daughter Gwendolyn Marie was born in June 2014. Son Isaac Reid arrived March 31.
