How To Avoid Holiday Overspending

Geograph, available for use

The holidays are for spending time with loved ones, but they're also a time for spending money ? sometimes, too much of it.

The decorations, gift items, food and treats on sale can entice even the most budget-conscious, and bring out the worst in a shopaholic. While many people try to set a limit on their holiday shopping, 78 percent of Americans will overspend.

Here to discuss budgeting over the holiday season and controlling that urge to spend are Clinical Director of Addiction Services at Lindner Center of Hope and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Dr. Chris Tuell; and Certified Credit Counselor at Apprisen, a company that helps people manage their finances, Dave Johnson.

Maryanne Zeleznik is responsible for all news and public affairs programming at WVXU. She also hosts Morning Edition Monday through Friday.
