Health Screenings Sunday At Some Cincinnati Churches

Cincinnati-area churches will be offering free health screenings to men, women and children this Sunday at 18 locations.

Health Day involves more than 40 community partners and more than 800 volunteers working to reduce preventable health disparities in the city's urban community.

Cincinnati first lady Dena Cranley and the First Ladies Health Initiative are working with the churches on the free screenings.  The initiative seeks to improve the well-being of minority populations, particularly African-Americans.

Among the services that will be offered are screenings for HIV, diabetes, hypertension, lung disease and asthma.  Additionally, flu shots, breast exams (at seven locations), prostate exams (at one location), dental vouchers, vision testing and behavioral health assessments will be offered.

The First Ladies Health Initiative, named for the pastors’ wives who volunteer their churches for the free health tests, is led locally by Dena Cranley, in conjunction with The Center for Closing the Health Gap.  Cranley’s co-chair is Barbara Lynch, first lady of New Jerusalem Baptist Church.

Community partners participating in Health Day include Cincinnati Public Schools, Enroll America, Mercy Health, Procter & Gamble, St. Elizabeth Healthcare, TriHealth, UC Health and the Cincinnati Reds.
