Former WOXY-FM DJ Barb Abney returns to the airwaves here through next week to help her friends at WNKU-FM.
Abney, a 10-year veteran of Minnesota's Public Radio's "The Current" after her stint at 97X, will visit with WNKU-FM music hosts during the station's fall fund drive.
It's the first full-length membership drive since Northern Kentucky University announced in April that it was exploring the possible sale of selling the three FM stations.
She will be heard with hosts Liz Felix, Elaine Diehl, Pam Temple, Keegan and Sledge (also a 97X alum) during Oct. 13-21 on WNKU-FM (89.7), Middletown's WNKN-FM (105.9), Portsmouth's WNKE-FM (104.1) and WNKU.org.
"I've been listening to the evolution of WNKU from afar over the last year, and I'm very excited about what they're doing for the Cincinnati area,” said Abney in WNKU-FM's announcement. “I don't have a full-time gig right now, so I thought I’d offer to help out whether they need a coffee run or another friend on the air. WNKU is my way of keeping in touch with all of my local faves like Wussy, Over The Rhine and The Tigerlillies, so I want to do anything I can to lend a hand."
“We’re always looking for ways to spice up the membership drive.” said Aaron Sharpe, development director and acting general manager. Manager Sean O'Mealy left Oct. 7 to manage some Pennsylvania stations.
