If all goes as planned, by the middle of this week Cincinnati Council will have approved an operating budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1st.
Council's Budget and Finance Committee has special sessions set for Monday and Tuesday. The group will be making final modifications to the spending plan Mayor John Cranley sent to Council on May 14th.
There's a final public hearing Tuesday evening at 6 at Midway Elementary School on Glenmore Avenue.
The full Council is scheduled to take a final vote on the budget Wednesday afternoon.
Mayor Cranley and interim city manager Scott Stiles presented a spending plan that closed a $21 million deficit with spending reductions and some fees increases for additional money. Both said the general fund operating budget is structurally balanced, meaning the amount of spending is equal to or less than the amount the city is collecting in revenue.
Some have questioned the structurally balanced claim, but it is certainly far closer than has been the case with previous city budgets.
Council could consider a number of changes including funding for the health department, neighborhood business district improvements and a bike program definition that maintains money for bike lanes in the city.
