Former Chiquita CEO Fernando Aguirrehas made his biggest investment yet with the purchase of the Erie Seawolves, a Detroit Tigers AA team.
Last month the sale became final, making Aguirre the owner of the Pennsylvania team and adding to his baseball portfolio. He is already a minority owner of the Cincinnati Reds, and owns a third of the Chicago Cubs A team, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. "Now my chances of being in the World Series have increased, with the Reds, with the Cubs and with the Tigers!" he jokes.
Aguirre, in interview with WVXU, says he is a huge baseball fan and his favorite team remains the Reds. He says owning teams is fun, but it's also an investment. Aguirre's goals are to deliver a reasonable return on his investment, help train young professionals and give back to the community.
He will miss the All-Star Game in Cincinnati, but says his wife has put up with more baseball this year than normal and he promised her a trip for her birthday.
