With a waiting list of more than 3,000 people, Living Arrangements for the Developmentally Disabled (LADD) is breaking ground on a training facility and community center.

Director of Development and Public Relations Susan Brownknight says this is the first step to adding more staff and more housing.

"That 3,000 number is just scratching the surface in terms of the demand for service-supported housing," says Brownknight.

"We have to increasing or housing options, and they have to be integrated into the community,"

Brownknight says the demand is driven by more people being born with disabilities, more people diagnosed on the Autism spectrum, and simply better healthcare that helps people live longer.

The $6 million center near Xavier University is expected to take about a year to build. Fundraising is already underway for phase two, which includes additional living options.
