Creating A Shared Society For Jews And Christians In Israel

Provided
Christians make up about 2-percent of the adult population in Israel.

Until the creation of the State of Israel, Jews have always been the minority population, no matter where they lived. But after two thousand years, Israel has created the unique situation of a Christian minority in a Jewish country. And today Christians and Jews are trying to create a shared Israeli society.

In her job as program director of the Jerusalem Center for Jewish-Christian Relations, Hana Bendcowsky creates opportunities for Arab Christians and Jews in Israel to meet and work together. She is giving a presentation tomorrow evening at the Mayerson JCC, and she joins us this afternoon, along with Jewish Community Relations Council Director Jackie Congedo; and Maia Morag, schlicha, or community emissary from Israel to the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati.

Hana Bendcowsky's talk, “A Cross and a Star in the Holy Land: Jews and Christians in Israel,” will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, at the Mayerson JCC. For information and registration, click here. The presentation is the final installment of the 2017 Israelity speaker series, “Coexistence.”
