Council Committee Hears About MSD Report

Sarah Ramsey

A Cincinnati council committee learned more Tuesday about the recent report on the Metropolitan Sewer District.

Much of the information was shared when the document was released last week.

James Goetz, who co-chaired the MSD investigation, told council's rules and audit committee Tuesday he city needs to make sure employees are heard.

"There is nothing in our report that MSD employees did not know," Goetz said. "The important thing is that with employees like that, you need to be giving them the opportunity to speak up, you need to be giving them an opportunity to speak without fear of recourse."

The investigative report identified many issues with the agency's past management and procurement policies.

The report had 34 recommendations, and city officials report those are being implemented.

Current MSD District Gerald Checco told the committee changes are being made

"Out of the 34 recommendations, 17 recommendations are really MSD alone," Checco said. "And out of the 17 recommendations, I think 15 have been already implemented."

The report was also given to the Hamilton County prosecutor, the Ohio Attorney General, and the state ethics commission for further investigation.  Meanwhile, the FBI is also reportedly reviewing MSD.
