The Cincinnati Zoo's levy request looks to have support from at least two of Hamilton County's Commissioners.
The Zoo is asking the board to place a flat renewal of its five year levy on the November ballot.
Monday morning a committee which reviews county levies recommended the board fulfill the zoo's request.
Commissioner Greg Hartmann likes the low percentage of taxpayer funds the Zoo uses to operate.
"The Zoo has been very conservative in seeking to make requests of taxpayers in a levy which always is supported incredibly well," he says. "I think it's always worth noting how our zoo stands out in really seeking far less than a lot of other zoos around this country, as far as taxpayer support goes."
Fellow commissioner Todd Portune also expects he'll support the Zoo's request.
Commission President Chris Monzel says he wants to review the committee report and hear from the public before making a final decision.
Two public hearings are scheduled:
- Wednesday, July 10 during the regular commission meeting at 11 a.m.
- Wednesday, July 24 at 5:30 p.m. in commission chambers.
