The Butler County Sheriff's Department, the Hamilton City Health Department and the Butler County Board of Health are taking extra precautions to stop the spread of Hepatitis A after two inmates were diagnosed.
One inmate had to go to the hospital after he suffered from abdominal pain and nausea Thursday. That's when he tested positive. Another inmate complained of similar issues and was diagnosed a short time later.
The city and county health departments began immediate vaccination procedures to protect the other inmates and staff.
Hepatitis A is preventable by vaccine. It can spread through contaminated food or contact with someone who is infected.
In the past two months, workers have been diagnosed with Hepatitis A at four area restaurants.
The inmates are expected to make a full recovery.
