On Thursday, Nov. 21, the chairmen of the Republican and Democratic parties in Hamilton County will switch roles and argue for the other's position on alleged voter fraud as part of the Beyond Civility series of head-to-head debates.
For the past year, Democrats and Republicans on the Hamilton County Board of Elections have been battling over hundreds of cases of alleged voter fraud.
Democrats have often argued that the cases are being brought to discourage voters - particularly minority voters - from going to the polls. Republicans argue that they are simply trying to root out fraud and ensure that only valid votes count.
Hamilton County Democratic Party chairman Tim Burke, the chairman of the elections, has been skeptical of many of the cases of alleged voter fraud. Hamilton County Republican Party chairman Alex Triantafilou, a board member, has aggressively pursued the allegations of voter fraud.
Beyond Civility - an organization dedicated to bringing people of diverse political views together to discuss their differences - will have Burke making the argument that there is widespread voter fraud, while Triantafilou will argue for the Democratic position of voter suppression.
The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. at First United Unitarian Church at 536 Linton St., Avondale. on Thursday, Nov. 21. A social hour with light refreshments will begin at 5:30 p.m.
