The Blues: 5/14/16

This week's blues show begins with a song by Eric Bibb, "Like Aretha Loves to Sing."  He's on tour in the United Kingdom this month.  And, Aretha Franklin is coming to Cincinnati to perform with the Cincinnati Pops at Riverbend this summer on July 24th.  That's a must-see performance by a music legend!

The rest of the first set includes an instrumental by Prince, "A Case of You," from the Tribute to Joni Mitchell 2007 release on Nonesuch.  This is followed by Nina Simone and the classic "All Blues" by Ann Chamberlain and Eddie Morgan.

The second set starts off with Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble and Tommy Castro.  Tommy Castro's playing at the WC Handy Blues & BBQ Festivalin Henderson KY on June 18th.  It's a free festival and runs 6/15-18.  You'll also hear from the Allman Brothers, "Whipping Post," and then Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi from one of my favorite albums this year, God Don't Never Change: The Songs of Blind Willie Johnson.  They're playing Riverbend on July 30th.

And finally, the third set begins with Robert Plantand Lil' Band o' Gold.  Plant's starting a European tour with one Belgium date in July and then an extended tour beginning August 2nd in France.  Tom Waits follows with "Hold On" from Mule Variations.  (Tom's thoughts on Merle Haggard)   This edition of The Blues ends with Ken Nordine and Terence Blanchard.
