With more than 20 years of journalism experience in the Greater Cincinnati market, Ann Thompson brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her reporting. She has reported for WKRC, WCKY, WHIO-TV, Metro Networks and CBS/ABC Radio. Her work has been recognized by the Associated Press and the Society of Professional Journalists. In 2011 A-P named her “Best Reporter” for large market radio in Ohio. She has won awards from the Association of Women in Communications and the Alliance for Women in Media. Ann reports regularly on science and technology in Focus on Technology.


She has reported from Japan and South Korea, Germany and Belgium as part of fellowships from the East-West Center and RIAS.

After a year and a half of demolition and construction, Belterra Park, owned by Pinnacle Entertainment, is off to the races. The Anderson Township property, opening Thursday, sits on 122 acres. It features 1,500 games, six restaurants, the River Downs Club and a VIP lounge. The first day of live racing is scheduled for May 8. Here's the racing schedule:

Making a fast track to Mars

Former astronaut Franklin Chang Diaz is developing a rocket that can get to Mars in 39 days.

Right now traveling to Mars would be a full-time commitment. Astronauts would be cooped up in a rocket for seven months and if they were able to take enough fuel to get back to earth, they would have to wait another two years before the planets would be close enough again. During this time their bone densities would greatly decrease and crumble once back on earth.

Six same-sex Cincinnati couples file suit to marry

Six same-sex couples are suing for the right to get married in Ohio. Here are some of the couples and their two attorneys.

Six Cincinnati same-sex couples have filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against The Director of the Ohio Department of Health and the Director of the Hamilton County Probate Court .

The suit seeks to "secure for same-sex couples across Ohio the right to marry on an equal basis with opposite-sex couples."

The Plaintiffs are Michelle Gibson and Deborah Meem; Heather Apple and Mary Koehler; Ronald Kastner Beck and Dave Beck; Andrew Hickman and Ethan Fletcher; Gary Goodman and Karl Rece, Jr.; and Rhonda Craig and Kendra Dukes.

Archdiocese now has petitions protesting new teacher contract

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, today called on Cincinnati Archbishop Dennis Schnurr to remove the so-called “morality clause” from Cincinnati Catholic school teacher contracts for the 2014-2015 school year. The group will gather outside the Cincinnati Hamilton County Public Library this afternoon at 3:30 and will walk to the Cincinnati Archdiocese to deliver its petitions with 30,000 signatures.

Saying goodbye to Arko, Wright Pat's best friend

Arko, a military dog, out of Wright Pat and deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, will be remembered Friday in a special service. He died of a sudden illness in February.

Arko, a 6-year old military working dog, who had deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kuwait with the 88th Security Forces Squadron out of Wright Patterson Air Force Base, will be remembered Friday with a special service.

The German Shepherd was a patrol and explosive detector dog with deployments that included Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom.

After a sudden illness, he was laid to rest February 16, 2014 in the Wright-Patterson AFB kennel.
