Big hangar headlines Wilmington redevelopment

Airborne has doubled the size of its hangar at the Wilmington Air Park and can now work on 777s and 747s

Five years after losing DHL's domestic operations hub, the Wilmington Air Park is rebuilding itself.  The latest project involves a new 105,000 square foot aircraft maintenance hangar, capable of housing planes as big as a Boeing 747-400 or 777-300ER.

The hangar is leased by Airborne Maintenance and Engineering Services (AMES), already providing maintenance, repair and overhaul services at the Wilmington Air Park. The company anticipates hiring 259 people because of the expanded hangar.

Greater Dayton doesn't get 'drone' test site

The FAA has announced its six national test sites that will develop unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and they do not include  Greater Dayton. The sites will conduct critical research into the certification and operational requirements necessary to safely integrate UAS into the national airspace over the next several years.

Ohio's aerospace industry taking off with GE partnerships

GE Aviation and University of Cincinnati Research Institute (UCRI) have signed an agreement to collaborate at the new GE Aviation Research Center in Evendale and its three labs. GE says, "the scope of this agreement marks a first in Ohio between a leading aerospace company and a leading university research institute."

Sinclair helps make UAS case for Dayton hub

Sinclair Community College now has permission (CoA) to fly UAS (unmanned aerial systems) at the Wilmington Air Park.

Jobs are slowly coming back to Wilmington

Business is slowly coming back to Wilmington and the air park.

Ohio Governor John Kasich is traveling to Wilmington Thursday to announce a handful of companies are making commitments to create hundreds of jobs.

The positive economic news in and around Wilmington has been slow to come ever since DHL closed it's domestic operations and put 8,000 people out of a job.
