Snow in large supply; salt, not so much

"Pretty lean." That's how Engineer Ted Hubbard describes Hamilton County's road salt supplies.

"The problem isn't that we don't have material on order," says Hubbard. "The problem is the suppliers are having difficulty getting it to us in the quantities that we ordered... We're getting it in but it's coming in very slowly."

Hubbard says the county has already gone through more than 22,000 tons of salt and that doesn't include the most recent storm. As of Monday afternoon the county had just below 3000 tons on hand.

More snow, less salt

Salt and sand piles are running low on supplies at this station in Northern Hamilton County.

Snow showers Sunday morning sent crews scrambling back out to clear roads in Hamilton County.

Unlike our television counterparts, we at WVXU don't often head out to the salt pile but reporter Tana Weingartner happened to drive past the Hamilton County Engineer's Office and caught a glimpse of the low reserves at the facility. This location has two barns, one for salt and the other for a sand mixture. Each is down to just a ring around the inside edge.
