The second trial of Ray Tensing is scheduled for May 25. The white former University of Cincinnati police officer is accused of killing unarmed black motorist Sam DuBose during a 2015 traffic stop. The first trial ended with a hung jury.

Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil says planning is already underway to ensure safety and security for everyone during the upcoming retrial of former UC police officer Ray Tensing.

The Hamilton County Prosecutor won't be at the helm for the upcoming retrial of former UC police officer Ray Tensing. Prosecutor Joe Deters is assigning Chief Assistant Prosecutors Seth Tieger and Stacey DeGraffenreid.

Update 12/14/16: Judge Leslie Ghiz is barring attorneys from discussing the case. In issuing the gag order Wednesday Ghiz writes, "It's intended to prevent media coverage of statements that might unfairly influence the potential jury pool and outcome of the case."

Update 11/29/16: The case has been reassigned to Judge Leslie Ghiz. Judge Tom Heekin recused himself Tuesday morning. The case was then randomly assigned to Judge Beth Myers who also recused herself. She is slated to move to the appellate court in February 2017.

A hearing on the Ray Tensing trial was held Monday morning. During the hearing Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Megan Shanahan denied a motion to acquit Tensing on all charges, and she recused herself from the case.

In a press conference Tuesday morning at his office, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced that he plans to retry Ray Tensing on the charges of murder and voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of Sam DuBose. He also said he will ask for a change of venue to another city, where they will have better chance of seating a jury that can deal with the public outrage and publicity surrounding the case.

In a news release the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office says Joe Deters will announce his decision on whether to retry former University of Cincinnati Police officer Ray Tensing at a press conference Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m.
