Shakespeare in the Park starts August 3 and runs all month

Back for their 20th summer, it’s time for free Shakespeare in the Park from the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. This summer’s tour kicks off on Saturday, August 3 with Romeo and Juliet at Boone Woods Park in Burlington. Saturday, August 18 will be their second visit to Washington Park with a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with lots of other stops through August. Jim Stump learns about the challenges of mounting a traveling production and where the plays will be performed from Jeanna Vella, director of education and communications at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company.

"Double Indemnity" on stage

"Double Indemnity"

Cincinnati’s Playhouse in the Park brings one of Hollywood’s classic Billy Wilder films to the stage. Double Indemnity is a story filled with intrigue, lust and murder and it begins its premiere fun in the Marx Theater on April 25. One of the challenges of this production is the complex set, so Rick Pender talks with the set designer, Paul Shortt, about successfully staging a play with so many set changes while maintaining the dramatic tension.

"War Horse" comes to the Aronoff Center

Five-time Tony Award winning play, War Horse, is making its Cincinnati debut at the Aronoff Center as part of the Broadway series. Starting as a children’s book before becoming this uniquely staged production, it was then translated into a Steven Spielberg-directed film. Jim Stump welcomes Genevieve Miller and Elizabeth Truitt from Broadway in Cincinnati to talk about War Horse in advance of its March 26 opening.
