The next great business leaders may be working on their sales pitches at an elementary school near you. Cincinnati Public Schools launched its Vision 2020 initiative in 2016. The idea is to strengthen neighborhood schools through specialized new programming in partnership with the community. At Rothenberg Preparatory Academy and Westwood School business acumen is the focus. Students in the 5th and 6th grades design, start and maintain their own businesses as part of the schools' Student Enterprise Program. Local business owners visit the classrooms to give real-world advice to the young entrepreneurs.

Cincinnati Public Schools Superintendent Mary Ronan announced Thursday she will retire on August 1, 2017.

Her decision comes after the district successfully passed a new 7.93 mill operating levy two weeks ago that will help expand preschool.

Many students often hate to take home a bad report card and that is the case now for many Ohio school superintendents including Cincinnati's Mary Ronan.

"600 of the state's 608 districts, ours included, we all dropped in grades on the latest version of the report card," the superintendent of Cincinnati Public Schools said. .

School district report cards are out from the state and they aren't very complimentary.

Cincinnati Public earned two C's, one D and six F's. CPS isn't alone. Superintendent Mary Ronan says scores are down statewide as everyone transitions to a whole new grading system.

Cincinnati Public School students head back to class next week. Today Superintendent Mary Ronan opened the year with the annual State of the Schools address.

Ronan says the district will fully implement the new Common Core standards.
