  Union Institute & University is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the school began in 1964 when ten college presidents met to form a consortium, The Union for Research and Experimentation in Higher Education. The university pioneered many of the concepts now common in higher education, including distance education, individualized self-paced programs, and an abiding commitment to adults seeking transformative education.

  Thomas More College in Northern Kentucky named a new president last year. David A. Armstrong took office on July 1, he’s the 14th president of the small, Catholic liberal arts college. He talks with us about Thomas More, and what he hopes to accomplish during his tenure at the school.

It will now be easier for Cincinnati State students to get four-year degrees from the University of Cincinnati.  

Many colleges and universities have embraced online learning and now offer a variety of courses students can take without ever entering a classroom. Now some universities are offering free online classes, called MOOCs, Massive Open Online Courses. Northern Kentucky University and Gateway Community and Technical College recently announced a partnership called Gateway2NKU that will provide students an efficient and more affordable path to earning a bachelor’s degree. Northern Kentucky University Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, J. Patrick Moynahan, and Mike Rosenberg Director of Transfer Services at Gateway Community & Technical College, explain the new program.

Gateway Community College and Northern Kentucky University are partnering to make it easier for Gateway students to pursue four-year degrees at NKU.

Students can choose from 25 career paths and take up to four NKU classes at Gateway prices. All of their credits will transfer as well.

NKU President Geoffrey Mearns says the partnership will offer  better service to all students, more efficient and effective use of resources and enhance opportunities for students to pursue their goals.
