Commission supports Gov's budget

Gov. John Kasich unveils his proposed state budget

All three Hamilton County Commissioners are optimistic about Governor John Kasich's proposed state budget.

Republicans Chris Monzel and Greg Hartmann call the plan bold and filled with a lot of changes that could affect county government. Hartmann adds the proposed budget has the potential to be revolutionary.

Democrat Todd Portune agrees. He especially likes the plans for Medicaid.

Strickland: Tired of raising campaign money

Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, like many seasoned election veterans, likes to help the young aspiring politicians who, in years past, helped him get where he wanted to go.


That’s what Strickland was doing in Cincinnati Friday, at the Southern Baptist Church and elsewhere, where he joined Greg Landsman, a fellow Democrat, as Landsman officially launched his run for a seat on Cincinnati City Council.

New law has tails wagging

Gov. John Kasich signs a puppy mill bill into law.

Ohio’s Governor has signed a bill into law that cracks down on puppy mills.

The signing ceremony for a bill that sets standards for high concentration kennels went to the dogs… literally. As Governor Kasich signed the bill, a Bichon named Sammy joined him on the table.

The bill requires registration and vet checks for dogs in high volume kennels.  It’s a change that Sue Pohler, the owner of a puppy milled dog, says has been a long time coming for a couple of reasons.

Kasich, Beshear, LaHood say tolls will be part of a new Brent Spence Bridge

The Brent Spence Bridge was built to handle 80,000 vehicles a day. It's now estimated to have 160,000 a day.

Funding for a new Brent Spence Bridge will include tolls, according to U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, and governors from Ohio and Kentucky who gathered Wednesday in Covington. But that doesn't mean everyone is on board with the idea.


As Ohio Governor John Kasich stood beside his Kentucky counterpart announcing the states would be working together to build a new bridge, he didn't shy away from letting a roomful of officials and reporters know that a toll would be part of it.
