Geoffrey Mearns

Sacred Heart Radio

Northern Kentucky University is selling Middletown's WPFB-AM (910) to Sacred Heart Radio, the Catholic station broadcasting on WNOP-AM (740).

The Middletown AM station, which reaches north of Dayton and west of Oxford, will allow Sacred Heart Radio "to cover all the major cities in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. It's a monster signal during the day," says Bill Levitt, general manager.

Northern Kentucky University has fired athletic director Scott Eaton.  University President Geoffrey Mearns said in a letter to the Board of Regents Monday that Eaton was terminated for failure to comply with NKU's ethical principles and code of conduct.  Mearns said the information he received required a swift and decisive response.

Mearns laid out this timeline in his letter:

Classes begin Monday for students at Northern Kentucky University. Today the president had a message for the people who will teach them.

Nearly four months to the minute after being named president, Geoffrey Mearns stood before faculty and administrators at today's convocation and looked forward. His mission is not without challenges.

State funding is down and Mearns says for-profit online institutions, with increasingly aggressive recruiting tactics, are posing a major threat.
