Cincinnati will officially welcome the holiday season Friday evening with the Light Up the Square event.

The holiday decorations and the tree on Fountain Square will be turned on for the first time.

Festivities will begin at 6PM, with live music from Eclipse and the Cincy Brass, and a special performance by SCPA’s musical theater group.

Revelers can also expect special appearances from the likes of Drew and Lea Lachey, as well as Santa Claus.

Fountain Square will also feature plenty of food, music, ice skating and a fireworks show.

We are now full in to the holidays, and downtown Cincinnati is lit up, the skating rink is open, and businesses and restaurants are ready for shoppers and diners. Tricia Suit, the director of marketing with Downtown Cincinnati, Inc. joins Mark Perzel with information on special holiday events happening in and around Fountain Square during this holiday season.

Stop by Fountain Square right after Thanksgiving (November 23-25) and experience a true German holiday market. Cincideutsch Christkindlmark will feature vendors selling authentic German foods, sweets, holiday decorations, mulled wine, beer, and more. Frank Johnson learned more about this tradition and what visitors can expect to see and hear during a conversation with Cincideutsch President Olaf Scheil and VP Linda McAlister.
