Former state representative Beck goes to trial March 23

Former state representative Peter Beck of Mason will go to trial March 23 on dozens of counts involving theft and fraud.

The trial is scheduled for four weeks in the Hamilton County Common Pleas courtroom of Judge John West.

Beck, who resigned from the Ohio House earlier this month, was indicted on sixteen counts in 2013. A second indictment this year added fifty-three more counts. But Beck's lawyers say 15 of them were duplicates of the original indictment.

State Rep. Peter Beck, a Mason Republican who already faces trial on 16 counts of fraud and theft, was hit with a 53- count felony indictment Thursday stemming from the same case.

A Hamilton County grand jury issued the latest indictment after a joint investigation by Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters and Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine.

The new charges cover a longer period of time than the original indictments last July.

Beck won't resign Ohio House seat, lawyer says

State Rep. Peter Beck of Mason, indicted Friday on 16 felony charges, will not be resigning from his seat in the Ohio House, his lawyer said Monday.

"He has no intention of doing that,'' Konrad Kircher, the Mason lawyer who is defending the Republican lawmaker told WVXU. "These are just charges. He plans to fight them, clear his name, and put this behind him."
