Kearney to be Democratic lieutenant govenor candidate

State Senator Eric Kearney of North Avondale will be Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ed FitzGerald's running mate for lieutenant governor, a campaign source said today.

Kearney, who is 50 years old, will officially join the Democratic ticket tomorrow at an event with FitzGerald  at Crowley's Pub in Mt. Adams, according to FitzGerald campaign spokesman Matt McGrath.

Cuyahoga County executive FitzGerald is taking on incumbent Republican governor John Kasich in the 2014 election. It is assumed that Kasich will run with the current lieutenant governor, Mary Taylor.

Ohio Medicaid Expansion

    Ohio Governor john Kasich wants to expand the state’s Medicaid program, but is getting push-back from conservative Republicans in the General Assembly. Kasich, Ohio Democratic legislators and other proponents of Medicaid expansion say it will save the state money and insure more Ohioans, but opponents claim it will cause Ohio to lose jobs and increase the state’s cost to cover health care.

Four Cincinnati Democrats on statewide ballot?

On Friday night, at the Columbus Athenaeum, the Ohio Democratic Democratic Party will hold its annual "Legacy Dinner," one of the party's largest fundraising events of the year.

"Let's celebrate our 2014 talent,'' says the announcement on the party's website, ohiodems.org.

In other words, it is a "cattle call" for potential statewide candidates.
