Downtown Cincinnati

Architects say they're about a month or two away from having a final design for the new dunnhumbyUSA building at the corner of Fifth and Race in downtown Cincinnati.

Officials updated the city's Urban Design Review Board Tuesday about their preliminary work.  They said the challenge is to design a contemporary building that fits into the existing urban fabric of the city.  Architects say the outside of the building will be pre-cast concrete and lots of glass.  The concrete will have a dark color and will feature some texture.

The Art Circle at the Essex Studios' current exhibit, entitled “Quench Your Thirst for Art,” is on display inside Venue 222, a downtown meeting space for corporate and social events located on 14th Street.

I was fortunate to get some insight into both the artwork and the facility itself from Debbie Dent, owner of Venue 222, and Connie Springer from the Art Circle.

What does it mean to be awesome?

The Awesome Foundation, started in Boston in 2009, set out to discover just that.  The Foundation provides one-time $1,000 grants, with no strings attached, to people who can create – in their words - "flashes of micro-brilliance."

Jane Durrell welcomes in to our studio two of the local artists behind the 5th Street Gallery, a collaborative of a wide variety of artists in many different media. Ober-Rae Livingstone is an artist and manager of the Gallery, and former Enquirer reporter-turned-fulltime artist Sara Pearce, discuss the role of the gallery and its heart-of-the-city location at the Hilton Netherland Plaza Hotel.

Tom + Chee, a grilled cheese and tomato soup shop that started in a tent on Fountain Square is taking the next big step.

Owners Cory Ward and Trew Quackenbush will pitch their brand of grilled cheese to the panel on ABC's "Shark Tank" on Friday, May 17.

Surrounded by friends and family, Ward and Quackenbush made the announcement at their Court St. location this morning.
